About Connecticut’s Program

Read to a Child in Connecticut’s Lunchtime Reading Program began in Hartford in 1998. Supported by nearly 200 corporate and community volunteers, the Program today serves over 170 kindergarten through grade four at-risk children in Hartford and New Britain public schools. Keenly aware of the ongoing, critical need to build literacy skills and a love of reading and books in these young students, Read to a Child in Connecticut looks forward to introducing Lunchtime Reading to more students in more schools. Please join us in this important initiative as a volunteer reader, corporate partner, or individual donor by contacting Gina Broadbent at gina.broadbent@readtoachild.org or 860-838-3916.

If you are interested in volunteering at one of our Greater Hartford Schools, please first familiarize yourself with our Lunchtime Reading Program, verify that you are able to make the weekly lunchtime commitment throughout the school year, and determine if one of our school locations is convenient for you. Once you are ready to enroll, reach out to us at gina.broadbent@readtoachild.org.
