Regional Director – Detroit

The Regional Director manages one of Read to a Child’s regions and is a key member of Read to a Child’s management team. S/he is responsible for fundraising and supporting program quality and growth in the region. Program includes the Read Aloud Mentoring Program in multiple schools/ sites as well as supporting other programs/ events in support of the organization’s mission. S/he works to expand Read to a Child’s impact in the region and to help nurture/ expand a united, sustainable organization that maximizes impact on children nationwide. S/he will also seek and receive local support from a Regional Board of Advisors.

Specific Job Responsibilities


● Identify and secure local funding from all sources — corporations, foundations, community organizations, individuals, etc. – to ensure long-term program sustainability and growth.
● Manage, with support from the National Office and Regional Board of Advisors, a major annual fundraising event.
● Partnerships (funding and volunteers). Manage existing and actively build new local partnerships, keeping contacts well-informed and engaged.
● Manage, engage, inspire, and assist in recruiting new members of the Regional Board of Advisors.
● Work with National VP, Program Management and regional Program Manager/s to ensure program success by effectively hiring, developing, supervising and retaining program staff as needed and as funding allows. Regional Program Manager/s will report to the National VP, Program Management with a dotted line to the Regional Director.
● Work with regional Program Manager to sustain strong existing school relationships and build new ones.
● Seek and act on opportunities to increase Read to a Child’s visibility.
● Ensure accurate database records of donors and prospects. Work with regional Program Manager to ensure accurate, up to date database records on program participants. Work closely with the National Office on other operations items (timesheet review, banking, communications, thank you letters, etc.)
● Financial and Strategic Accountability. Responsible for actual results (revenue and expenses), forecasting, budgeting; steering strategy for growing students served in the region; and operating efficiently and in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.

Key Qualifications


 Bachelor’s degree required
 A minimum of 5 years of experience and demonstrated success in a professional working environment
 Belief in and commitment to Read to a Child’s mission and vision, and a strong desire to support the organization’s growth
 Strong interest in children’s literacy and a passion for helping children succeed
 Eager to learn and master historical information about the organization and its stakeholders, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization
 Professional, positive, self-directed work style
 Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
 Experience driving major gifts campaigns, securing philanthropic gifts of $20K+
 Experience in building cross-sector relationships as well as identifying and developing strategic partnerships with corporations and other key stakeholder groups
 Strong business acumen, with ability to understand organization dynamics and navigate corporate cultures
 Experience coordinating and developing executive presentations
 Top-notch organization skills, and ability to comfortably plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously – with a positive attitude
 Commitment to efficient use of resources and model “all hands on deck” as needed
 Demonstrated success at supervising and evaluating staff, delegating and following-through to ensure timely project completion, and facilitating meetings to ensure effective use of time for all participants
 Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, CRM database (Salesforce a plus) and video conferencing
 Access to a car. Local travel required, as well as potentially an annual work session.
