Andrea first learned about Read to a Child through her employer and was compelled by the opportunity to be partnered with a child and read to them on a regular basis. The proximity of the program’s location to Andrea’s employer makes her experience a simple & convenient way to ‘add some fun’ to her day while offering her the opportunity to make a true difference in the lives of the students she has mentored.
Andrea has had multiple mentees in Read to a Child’s Read Aloud Mentoring Program and has always been impressed with her students’ social and emotional development throughout their time together as well as their confidence and engagement with increasingly challenging texts. She feels the program has a true impact on students’ listening comprehension and overall interest in the books that are being read.
Why does Andrea choose to come back year after year? To her – it’s as simple as ‘…seeing the kids, interacting with them on a weekly basis – the fun and the laughter,’ in addition to the incredible support from the Read to a Child program staff that have made her experience so positive and impactful.
