MEDIA ADVISORY: Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin to Read to Betances Elementary Students in Read to a Child’s Lunchtime Reading Program – November 29, 2016
Hartford, November 29, 2016 – Tuesday morning December 5th at 11:30AM, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin will read to kindergarten and first grade students in Read to a Child’s Lunchtime Reading Program at the Dr. Ramon E. Betances Early Reading Lab School in Hartford. Mayor Bronin will be joined by Read to a Child CEO Paul Lamoureux and Travelers Vice President and CIO Sean Datcher to highlight the importance of utilizing volunteer reading mentors from corporate and community partners to boost literacy skills and self-esteem in urban public school students.

80% of low income 4th graders in the United States cannot read proficiently and 2/3rds of those will spend time on welfare or in jail. The event highlights the importance of reading and mentoring to address this major societal issue.
