LA Rams’ Todd Gurley and Children’s Book Author and Super Bowl Champ Malcolm Mitchell to Read to 500 Students in Los Angeles on “Read to a Child Day”
Los Angeles, CA – October 7, 2019 – Tomorrow (Tuesday October 8th) is National Read to a Child Day – and Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley will team up with his former University of Georgia teammate, Super Bowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell to read aloud to nearly 500 students at the Peter Burnett Elementary School in Hawthorne, CA. Each student will receive their own personal copy of Mitchell’s children’s’ book “The Magician’s Hat” to take home with them.
This “Reading Rally” is part of a special day-long collaborative called “Read Across LA,” where Mitchell and Gurley will personally distribute nearly 1,700 books to LA Kids.
The event is sponsored by Mitchell’s Share the Magic Foundation, Gurley’s M.A.D.E Sports Foundation, and the national literacy and mentoring non-profit Read to a Child. Books will be donated by Scholastic Book Clubs and other generous donors.
READ Across LA and National Read to a Child Day are part of efforts to raise awareness of the literacy crisis in the United States and to address it by inspiring students to read.
