New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart to read to Lincoln School students in Read to a Child’s Lunchtime Reading Program
New Britain, CT – April 24, 2017 – Thursday morning, April 27 at 11:30 AM, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart will read to second and third grade students in Read to a Child’s Lunchtime Reading Program at the Lincoln School in New Britain. Mayor Stewart will be joined by Read to a Child CT Regional Board Members Greg Boyd and Holly Lerose and Lincoln School Principal Elaine Cabral to highlight the importance of utilizing volunteer reading mentors from corporate and community partners to boost literacy skills and self-esteem in urban public school students.

WHY:
80% of low income 4th graders in the United States cannot read proficiently and more than 25% will not graduate from high school. The event highlights the importance of reading and mentoring to address this major societal issue.
