Read to a Child adds Margaret Carr as National Vice President of Development

Signals new era of philanthropic growth for national literacy & mentoring non-profit

Wellesley, MA, April 10, 2018 – National literacy and mentoring non-profit Read to a Child® today announced the appointment of Margaret Sullivan-Carr M.B.A., Ed.D. as its National Vice President of Development.  In this newly created role, Margaret will support the organization’s strategic plan growth goals and improve literacy skills and self-confidence in more than 1,750 at-risk children nationwide in the next two years. This hire signals the next era of philanthropic development for Read to a Child, which plans on increasing sustainable fundraising sources by 40%.

Most recently an adjunct professor at Lesley University and Director of Development and Marketing at South Shore Mental Health, Margaret has a strong track record of growing awareness and philanthropic revenue at a wide variety of mission-driven organizations. Prior to South Shore Mental Health, Margaret held key positions at Stonehill College, Good Samaritan Medical Center, Sister to Sister, Carney Hospital, and Visiting Nurse Associations.

“I am thrilled with Margaret’s decision to join Read to a Child and help us retain, grow and diversify our sources of philanthropic revenue,” said Paul Lamoureux, CEO of Read to a Child. “Our primary strategic objective is to serve 30% more at-risk students by end of FY19 and Margaret will be critical in these efforts.” Continued Lamoureux, “Margaret’s skill, passion, connections, expertise and commitment to our mission will be invaluable in enabling Read to a Child to grow and thrive in all of our regions nationwide.”

“I am excited to join Read to a Child and support its powerful mission,” said Margaret Carr.  “Fostering a love of reading among under-served children is a critical catalyst for learning and for success in life.”  Continues Carr, “I look forward to growing Read to a Child through its passionate base of stakeholders, as well as through new sources of philanthropy, with the ultimate goal of serving more children and enabling more successful futures.”

Margaret’s selection was based upon a nationwide search by New Kensington Associates of Andover, MA, a lengthy interview process, and the involvement and input of a myriad of Read to a Child staff and board members. Although national in scope, this position is based in Wellesley, MA.

In this new role, Margaret is a member of the organization’s senior leadership team, reports to the Chief Executive Officer, and is responsible for advancing Read to a Child’s mission by raising financial resources nationally and locally. She will provide support to the organization’s regional directors, volunteer leadership and development directors so that they are better able to generate philanthropic support for local programs and operations.
